The Singular – I Finally Know What’s Good for Me

I Finally Know What’s Good for Me was The Singular’s first recording. The band was originally conceived as a “lo-fi” band, and you can hear that concept played out a bit on this recording. While being a bit rough, this is front man James Pequignot’s most critically acclaimed piece of work to date. Evan Tachovsky, Pequignot’s former long time collaborator, played keys on this record even though he left the band before ever playing live. The name and artwork were inspired by an almost identical piece of art by Gretchen Grimm. She and James recreated the piece from scratch for the album artwork. James saw the piece at her art opening and believed the aesthetic matched that of the record he was making. The EP was recorded mostly live at Strangelove Recording where Pequignot worked at the time

I Finally Know What’s Good For Me was released on September 1, 2007. The songs were written by James Pequignot. Vocals, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar were performed by James Pequignot. Keyboards on Metal For Breakfast, An End To Words, and piano on Cheer Up, were performed by James Pequignot. Keyboards on Treading Water, Nobody, and Spiders, as well as cello and electric guitar on Cheer Up, were performed by Evan Tachovsky. The drums were performed by Jordan Valentine. Bass guitar was performed by Tim. The songs were produced and arranged by James Pequignot and The Singular. I Finally Know What’s Good For Me was recorded by James Pequignot at Strangelove Recording as well as his home studio. It was produced, mixed, and mastered by James Pequignot. The album artwork is an original piece by Gretchen Grimm.
